Title: She is a Metaphor of Our Redemption
Scripture reading: Isaiah 54:1-8
There is a metaphor of our redemption in Isaiah 54. It is the metaphor that compares redemption to a barren and desolate woman; a woman who cannot bear children and has been rejected by her husband and society. Yet, God accepts her despite her shame. He restores her and promises her blessings. She is compared to Israel and the Church, both of whom are redeemed through God’s love. As a sign of redemption the desolate woman is a type of Christ. Following on from Isaiah 53 (the suffering servant), Isaiah 54 (the desolate woman) is a different metaphor that helps us further understand the salvific work of Jesus Christ.
